What "Service To Others" Means To Me

I believe that we, as human beings, are here to serve a higher purpose in life. Life is not all about going to school, getting a degree, getting a job, owning the most expensive items and living in a big mansion. There is so much more to life and for me, the small pleasures of life are derived from my intrinsic motivation to serve others. I believe that human beings should learn to live in peace and should help each other out in every way possible. A teacher teaches his/her students and imparts knowledge that in turn work to make the lives of the students better. It is extremely important to give something back to humanity instead of just taking from it.

A person can take up many kinds of community services that a person can take up but I believe that counseling and mentoring children is what gives me the greatest intrinsic satisfaction. I believe that children are like molding putty and they can be molded into any shape that their mentor wants. I want to be able to mentor and counsel these children in the best possible way so that they are able to make wise decisions in their lives and choose the best possible path with their own well-informed decisions.

I have already worked with children as a mentor and I have learnt a lot of things. After working with the teens to help them realize what they should do with their lives, I was able to achieve the goals that I had set for myself. I wanted to learn more about how I could help the children and to make their lives better. I wanted to learn more about their procedures involved in counseling people and also of the various problems that they tend to face in their lives. I also derived great satisfaction from the fact that I was making a difference in the children's lives and was helping them to a path to their successful lives.

Today, in this world full of information, it has become very important to filter out the unnecessary information. Many of the children are not too well informed and they need a lot of help when it comes to career guidance and personal development. I believe that if I am able to completely help even one person, my aim and goal shall be reached. It is something about being a teacher and a mentor that gives one the feeling of really making a difference in the other persons' lives.

It gave me great pleasure to serve the community in my own way. I know that given the opportunity, I would not hesitate to involve myself in a similar project, as I really want to learn more about counseling children and their psychology. This would enable me to become a better psychologist and would also enable me to follow my passions and for providing me with the inherent contentment that I get from counseling the children.
